The Film 'Together' Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who enjoy the horror genre: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its online premiere on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like conventional biological terror, but inside Together resides a profound examination about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors infuse a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The story begins when Tim and Millie transition from the big city to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, of course, but that’s primarily where the cliches end. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and the two tumble into an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a strange force begins influencing the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying horror experience, blending bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director weaves these elements together expertly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is only the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and distant from his support system. He dreads the idea of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is amplified by the fact he can’t drive and relies on Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision is that he never makes one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie grapple with the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions after ten years. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, provide solace, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these concerns of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Conversely, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can embark on right now.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
