19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents his maiden title after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.
The win also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.
The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
Moutet rescued four early break points in a tight final set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
